Then we'll frost the Cupfakes with a pastry bag and real piping tips, just like a bakery - except our icing will be tinted spackling paste. Various icing techniques will be taught. Sprinkles will definitely be involved. Teens will learn professional cake decorating techniques that can apply to genuine cupcakes in the future.

Freezer Paper Stencils for Teens

  • Eugene Public Libraries

Freezer paper is a widely available material with miraculous properties. We’ll cut stencils out of freezer paper, exploring the concept of positive and negative space. Then we’ll fuse the stencils to fabric using an iron on a low setting, and apply fabric paint. When the freezer paper is removed, a crisp, one-of-a-kind image appears. All of the materials we’ll use are readily available, and teens will leave the class armed with the skills to do this project on their own at home.

I'll be doing this program at all three Eugene branch libraries on July 26th & 27th. Learn specific location and time info here.

Wet Felted Beads for All Ages

  • Albina Library

Learn the ancient craft of feltmaking by making beads using only raw wool and hot soapy water. You will felt a "cane" of layered wool that will be cut into slices of millefiori-style beads. In this workshop, you'll get to make a nice collection of beads that can be strung into bracelets, necklaces and garlands, or used as buttons. Because the wool beads must dry overnight before being strung into jewelry, this class covers just bead-making, not jewelry creation.

Craft Factory - Project Launch and Training Session for Teens

  • Sellwood Library

This program is for established teen councils who want to work on a special project: crafting items to donate to people in need. I’ve developed sewing patterns for hats, mittens, mitts and tote bags that the TC can create in a series of get-togethers at the library. I’ll come to the first meeting to introduce the project/train teens to sew and make the items. I’ll leave all the materials with the TC, who will then work in a self-directed way for a set period of weeks (to be determined by TC/librarian).
