SOURCING

I source materials that center the health of the planet, the worker and local economies. I support small scale operations that are BIPOC and/or female-run, when possible,

  • Harrisville Designs (New Hampshire). This mill has kept the textile tradition alive in New since 1794!! This is the only fiber mill left in America working at this scale, they’re the essential link in our very fragile fiber processing supply chain. The best fiber for needle felting and it comes in gorgeous heathered colors. 🌈

  • The Felting Source (Colorado). Foam pads made in USA, a felter-owned company. 🔘

  • Fiber Trends (Washington). Leather slippers soles for your felted slippers & mixed felting needle sets.👟

  • Hamanaka (Kyoto, Japan). Hamanaka is a woman-owned woolen yarn and fiber mill in Kyoto, Japan since 1956. The kits are legendary for their high quality materials and instruction. I especially love all the care they put into their tool designs like their felting grip and craft scissors.👍

Specialty fibers like locks are purchased directly from Shaggy Bear Farms an Oregon farm committed to preserving heritage fiber breeds. My boxes and packaging are manufactured just 5 miles away from PenFelt Studio at NW Paper Box. I ship via the United States Postal Service.

I’ve been working with wool since 2004. For me, the feel of the fibers in my hands and watching the wool transform into felt is a pleasure that never gets old. These are the materials and tools that I come back to again and again because they are such a joy to work with.
